The San Diego County Sheriffs Department has issued a press release detailing plans to increase enforcement of DUI arrests over the long holiday weekend. They will increase "DUI Patrols" starting today, July 3rd, through Sunday, July 6th. No indication exactly what this means. According to the press release, which can be viewed above, there will also be a DUI Checkpoint on Saturday, July 5th from 7:00 pm to 3:00 am, "at an undisclosed location within the City of San Diego."
Law enforcement is always looking for DUI arrests. Certain times though, like Fourth of July weekend, Halloween, New Years, etc., see an increasingly gung ho attitude of law enforcement on this issue. This is absolutely one of the worst times to drive with ANY alcohol in your system. Even after one beer, you are essentially risking that the Breathalyzer machines are working properly, or that you wont be arrested under Vehicle Code 23152(a) on a weekend where arrest statistics are so crucial to these law enforcement departments. Stay home and barbeque. Any further updates on locations of checkpoints will be published here.
Update: July 4, 2014: Chula Vista Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint between the hours of 6:00 pm and 3:00 am, "during the coming week in the city of Chula Vista." Press release can be seen here.
