Is Lodi the new Napa? More than 85 wineries in the Lodi area produce impressive Zinfandels and a variety of wines commonly seen in Spain, Italy, and Germany. Wine events attract visitors, while the city's natural beauty and historic downtown make it a popular wedding destination.
Lodi Traffic Accidents
Unfortunately, a little too much wine can lead to accidents on the roads that connect the wineries. Perhaps it isn't surprising that the Office of Traffic Safety ranked Lodi as having the 37th worst rate of alcohol-involved accidents among 102 comparable California cities.
The OTS compares cities in groups that are determined by population. It then ranks each city within a group after adjusting for population and miles driven. Of the 102 cities in Lodi's group, the OTS ranked Lodi as having the 63rd worst accident rate.
The OTS ranking is based on Lodi's 178 traffic accidents that caused an injury or death during the most recent year that the agency analyzed. The OTS gave Lodi a similar ranking for pedestrian accidents. Of 178 injury accidents, 13 involved pedestrians. The OTS ranked Lodi 62nd in that category.
Lodi Bicycle Accidents
Fifteen of Lodi's injury accidents involved bicyclists. Lodi had the 36th worst ranking in the bicycle accident category.
A recent collision between a car and bicycle at Hutchins Street and Century Boulevard is typical of Lodi bicycle accidents. The bicycle rider was critically injured in the collision. While we urge all bicyclists to wear a bicycle helmet, we also recognize that helmets provide little protection in high-speed collisions, and no protection against spinal injuries, broken bones, or joint damage.
Lodi Hit-and-Run Accidents
Most traffic accident claims are made against the company that insures the negligent driver. Unfortunately, the driver responsible for an accident cannot always be identified.
Hit-and-run drivers injured 25 individuals in Lodi during the most recent year that OTS analyzed. That statistic explains Lodi's hit-and-run ranking as the 16th worst of 102 comparable cities.
Vehicle owners should always carry uninsured motorist coverage with the same policy limits as their bodily injury coverage. Uninsured motorist coverage provides a source of compensation when a careless driver flees the scene of a traffic accident.
Lodi Traffic Accident Lawsuits
Whether a compensation claim should be filed against a negligent driver, a drunk driver, or a hit-and-run driver, a lawyer can make sure that the injury victim's rights are protected. Accident Lawyer Michael Rehm is available to help victims of Lodi accidents.
When an injury victim visits a lawyer promptly, the claim can often be settled without filing a lawsuit. When a suit must be filed for Lodi collision injuries, it will be heard by the San Joaquin County Superior Court. The courthouse is located at 180 East Weber Avenue in Stockton.
The Superior Court of San Joaquin County hears a lower volume of cases than courts in larger counties. Still, 949 motor vehicle accident lawsuits were filed in the most recent year for which statistics are available. In that same year, 725 motor vehicle accident lawsuits were resolved.
Only 15 of the 725 cases that resolved went to trial. The rest settled. Most cases settle within one year after suit is filed. In San Joaquin County, 87% are resolved by settlement or trial within two years.
